How we research, write, review, and maintain our health content.
Thank you for reading this post, don’t forget to subscribe!1. Research and Sourcing
All VitalPath articles are grounded in published, peer-reviewed research. Our sourcing hierarchy prioritizes:
- Systematic reviews and meta-analyses published in reputable journals (Cochrane, BMJ, JAMA, Lancet, NEJM, etc.)
- Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with adequate sample sizes and rigorous methodology
- Large prospective cohort studies when RCT data is unavailable
- Official guidelines from organizations like the WHO, CDC, NIH, American Heart Association, and similar bodies
- Expert consensus statements from relevant medical societies
We do not cite predatory journals, preprints that haven’t been peer-reviewed, individual case studies as generalizable evidence, or commercial websites as primary sources for health claims.
2. Evidence Quality Labels
Throughout our articles, we use consistent language to indicate the strength of the evidence:
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Strong Evidence | Multiple high-quality RCTs or meta-analyses consistently support this finding |
| Moderate Evidence | Some RCTs support this, but more research is needed or results are mixed |
| Limited/Preliminary Evidence | Mainly observational studies, small trials, or mechanistic research |
| No Evidence | Claims not supported by any credible research |
3. Writing and Review Process
Each article goes through a multi-stage process:
- Research phase: Comprehensive literature review using PubMed, Cochrane Library, and other academic databases
- Drafting: Written by a health science professional with relevant domain expertise
- Internal review: Reviewed by at least one other team member for accuracy, clarity, and completeness
- Fact-checking: All statistics, study citations, and health claims verified against original sources
- Publication and monitoring: Regular review cycle to incorporate new evidence
4. Conflicts of Interest
VitalPath has a strict no-conflict policy:
- We do not accept advertising, sponsorships, or paid placements
- We do not sell products, supplements, or services
- We do not receive commissions or affiliate revenue from any products mentioned in our content
- All authors and reviewers disclose any potential conflicts of interest
5. Corrections and Updates
Medicine and health science evolve. Our commitment to accuracy includes:
- Regular review cycles: Articles are reviewed at least every 12 months, or sooner if significant new research is published
- Transparent corrections: If an error is identified, we correct it promptly and note the correction date
- Reader feedback: We actively encourage and respond to reader questions, concerns, and correction requests
- Update timestamps: Each article displays its original publication date and most recent update date, so readers know how current the information is
